The Woodlands, an independent senior living community, celebrated its opening Thursday (August 29) with a Ribbon Cutting at the facility, on Stonebrook Drive in Perinton.

“When this first came before us, the residents of Egypt Hills expressed to us how happy they were that this facility would give them a chance to continue living in their own community after they retire,” Perinton Town Supervisor Mike Barker said. “I have to extend to you my gratitude for making that possible for them.”

In addition to Supervisor Barker, the event was attended by Perinton Town Council members Ciaran Hanna and Peg Havens as well as Perinton Town Clerk Jennifer West. Also on hand were Fairport Mayor Fritz May and New York State Assemblyman Mark Johns.

The Woodlands, which opened in May, has 41 living units. It is the first senior home opened by Fairport Baptist Homes and CEO Tom Poelma hopes there will be more.

“If this is successful, we have some other spots in mind for more homes,” he said. “We are very excited about these homes.”

Fairport Baptist Homes started planning the Woodlands in 2012, with construction starting about 18 months ago. Longwell Builders, of Pittsford, built and owns the apartment building, and Fairport Baptist Homes leases from them.
