Joseph LaFay appointed Perinton Town Attorney

The Perinton Town Board appointed former Town Board member Joseph LaFay as Town Attorney Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 during the Board’s annual organizational meeting.

LaFay replaces Robert Place, who retired at the end of 2018 after 32 years of service to the town. LaFay was a Perinton Town Board member from 2004 until resigning this week to accept the Town Attorney position. LaFay will start his new job Thursday, but will take his oath of office Wednesday, Jan 9, 2019 at the Town Board’s regular meeting

“I'm really looking forward to being able to contribute to the town in a new role,” said LaFay, who was also serving as Deputy Supervisor. “I have really enjoyed my time on the town board and I am hopeful that I can continue helping to guide us along the path that Bob Place has helped establish for us.  He has helped establish an excellent framework for the town.”

LaFay’s father, Anthony, was Perinton Town Attorney from 1973-1990.

Joseph LaFay is currently a partner and vice president for LaFay, Byrne & LaFay, P.C. in Rochester. Previously, LaFay was an intern for the Allen County District Attorney’s Office in Lima, Ohio (August 1994-December 1994.

LaFay earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Philosophy, from St. Bonaventure University in 1991. He earned his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University in 1995.
