Marriage Licenses
Couples wishing to obtain a
marriage license may do so up to 60 days in advance of their wedding date. It
is necessary that the license be obtained at least 24 hours before the wedding
is to take place. As proofs of identity they should bring with them birth
certificates AND valid passports or valid drivers' licenses. New York State will also accept as proof of
identity a valid non-driver's license, military ID, an employer's photo ID, or
original naturalization papers.
If either of the couple has been married before, and that marriage ended in
divorce, he or she must bring with them a copy of the final divorce decree
which shows that the divorce has been filed (usually a stamp on the first or
last page which says "Filed" and the date). If there have been
previous divorces it is necessary for the individual to know the date those
marriages ended. If a marriage ended because of the death of a spouse we will
need to know the date of the death.
The process of obtaining a marriage license takes about 15 minutes. The cost is
$40 payable in cash or check made out to Town of Perinton. The Clerk's office
is open for marriage licensing Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
(excepting holidays). No appointment is necessary. For further information, please
call the Town Clerk's office at 223-0770.
