2008 Assessment Update Information
The Perinton Assessment Office has completed their annual review of assessments for the 2008 assessment roll. Assessment change notices indicating preliminary assessments were mailed to property owners on March 18, 2008
The Assessment Office conducted informal hearings from March 24th through April 25th. Assessment notices resulting from those hearings were mailed to property owners on May 2, 2008.
The 2008 tentative assessment roll has been filed and is available at the Assessment Office in Perinton Town Hall for public view.
If you feel the assessment on your property is a fair representation of your property's value, you do not need to take any action. If you disagree with your tentative assessment, you may file a formal grievance with the Board of Assessment Review. Grievance Day is Tuesday, May 27, 2008. The deadline for filing a grievance and making an appointment with the Board of Review is 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27th.
If you wish to file a formal complaint, you are required to file Form RP-524, Complaint on Real Property Assessment. All four pages of the application must be completed and the form must be signed. Appointments to appear before the Board of Assessment Review will be scheduled only after this form is completed and submitted to the Assessment Office.
Grievance complaint forms (RP-524) and instructions are available at the Assessment Office, Perinton Town Hall, 1350 Turk Hill Road or through the following link.

The Board strives to give full and fair consideration to every grievance; however, it cannot do so without information from the property owner to support their complaint. If you are in disagreement with your assessed value, you must provide information to support your estimate of value (remember, assessed value = market value). The following types of supporting documentation are helpful in determining your property's market value and should be provided with your grievance complaint form, if applicable:
- A recent sale of the property (copy of purchase contract).
- A recent listing of the property showing the asking price, time on the market and any offers made.
- Recent sales of similar properties in your neighborhood. Information regarding recent sales of properties is available in the Assessment Office, the Fairport Public Library and on the town website link www.perinton.org.
- A recent appraisal prepared by a licensed or certified appraiser (preferred over a comparative market analysis prepared by a realtor).
- Cost of construction, if recent or new construction.
- Rental information, if property is income producing.
- Photographs showing significant problems with your property.
If you do not submit any documentation to support a different value than what has been determined by the Assessment Office, do not expect a reduction in the assessed value. You must have documentation justifying your estimate of value.
