The Town of Perinton's leaf collection program is divided into two types, weekly collection and bulk collection. Weekly leaf collection takes place once a week on your normal trash day. This type of pickup is for smaller amounts that can be placed at the curbside in reusable containers for our packer style trucks to collect.
Bulk collection starts after Labor Day and continues until all of the leaves are picked up or when winter weather sets in. This operation is for larger amounts which are placed at the curbside in large piles. Due to volumes and weather conditions, this type of collection can take up to 3 weeks to get around the whole town. For this bulk collection, vacuum machines and truck loading equipment are used. The vacuum machines suck up the leaves and blow them into the back of a large truck. The vacuum machines are used on most main roads to minimize traffic delays and for lower volume areas. The truck loading equipment consists of several trucks, a loader, a tractor, and several ground people. These crews pull the leaves into the road where they are picked up by the loader and placed into large trucks. This type of operation usually takes place in neighborhoods and heavy volume areas. Leaf collection and transfer equipment is designed for leaves only. Every effort should be made to keep all foreign matter including: stones, dirt, sticks, and grass out of the leaf piles.
All of the leaves that are picked up go to the High Acres landfill where they are composted and sold to landscape companies.
Spring leaf pick-up will be collected in bulk with vacuum machines or loaders. Collection will occur on a 2-week cycle during the months of April and May. Leaves should be placed at the edge of your property, not on the pavement. DO NOT MIX sticks or other debris in the leaf piles (this will break the leaf vacuums). Leaf piles that contain sticks or other debris must be containerized to facilitate collection. Leaves placed in reusable waterproof containers will be collected year round on your regularly scheduled collection day. Leaves placed in cardboard boxes or paper or plastic bags will not be collected. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about this service.
